Are people the same? No of course not, everyone is unique and has their own strengths and weaknesses. However what has been shown is that people do act and react in certain common ways and these patterns can be determined based on the way that people respond to certain questions.

One of the most popular questionnaires currently in use is the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. Developed during and after the 2nd World War this series of questions categorizes people into one of 16 different categories each of which have their own attributes.

Each of the different 4 letter acronyms applies to specific categories and based on how each of these interact, you are able to determine a persons abilities and while the test is by no means absolute, it can definitely serve as a good indicator where and how they would react.

One thing that needs to be said - no personality test is 100% accurate and should never be the only tool that is used in your hiring or decision making.  Rather, tools like MBTI and others should be simply one more arrow in your management quiver!

The Questions

There are many online sites where you may take the questions for the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and one that is quite good is here. However if you are perhaps using this internally and want to keep the results on file, I have provided you with a scorecard (below) and the questions themselves so that you may run this internally in your organization.

For each question, choose either "A for Yes" or "B for No" - you are allowed to skip a question, but if possible all of the questions should be answered to get the most accurate answer/assessment.

Using the ScoreCard

As mentioned previously an online solution is available and you can also purchase the book entitled - Please Understand Me II by David Keirsey which has another list of questions also.

To use this scorecard please follow these instructions:

  1. Add up all of the "ticks" in each column and place the count above the relevant number in the column (for example if you had ticked 1, 15, 22, 29, 43 and 50 you would write down 6 above the number 1at the bottom of the column).
  2. Add up the following "sets" of number and place the total count into the Total Row.
  • 3+5 & 4+6
  • 7+9 & 8+10
  • 11+13 & 12+14

Above the "Total" Row select the letter corresponding to the highest number in each set - for example if for #1 you had 6 and for #2 you had 4, you would circle the letter "E".  Do the same for each set to obtain your Type.
